I’ve been buying, and consuming a lot of movies recently. something I rarely did outside of marvel slock. It’s acted as a good way to slow me down a bit during my longer work days so my hand hurts a little less. One of the things I was most excited for when beginning to explore movies was watching the films by Quentin Tarantino. I started with Pulp Fiction. which I enjoyed for it’s punchy script, interesting characters, and odd editing. Inglourious Basterds wasn’t as enjoyable. both it and pulp fiction have a length problem that’s very noticeable in the former. lots of drawn out scenes that could absolutely be cut down. Inglourious Basterds felt like 2 movies mixed together. still enjoyable, but taking punchy long conversations and putting them in foreign languages was an odd choice. these movies were good, but I was sold on a unique style that wasn’t really shining through with these movies.

DJANGO HOWEVER, had it all. punchy script. a really wacky editing style. every character had some goof ass theme song. no scene felt stretched, everything felt deliberate. the entire cast was great too. I love seeing Jamie Foxx being allowed to shine. it was an awesome movie. I loved every second. this morning I sketched that final cheeky smile he gave for my warmup.
